A Concept Rooted in Armagh’s Story
Long before the world agreed on a single line of reference for time and navigation, Armagh had already drawn its own. The Armagh Observatory, one of the oldest scientific institutions on the island of Ireland, played a central role in the marriage of astronomy and precision timekeeping that made long-distance sea navigation possible. Before Greenwich became the global standard, Armagh held its own meridian line, its own relationship with time and the cosmos.
